Why Bet on Georgia to Win the 2018 College Football Championship?
The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the more iconic names in college football, yet you need to go all the way back to 1980 to find the last time that they won a National Championship. Back then, the Dawgs rode Herschel Walker all the way to the title, and they will be looking to be doing something similar this year, as it is their running game that will once again be the focus. Georgia is coming into the game against the Alabama Crimson Tide as a 4-point underdog, but that does not mean that they should instantly be written off, as there are several good reasons why the Bulldogs are a very good bet to be National Champions. Let’s take a look at why you should consider betting on Georgia.

The Run Game
Things may have been very different for the Bulldogs this season if Sony Michel and Nick Chubb has decided to declare for the NFL. They, like several other key seniors on the team, decided to return, and the impact that they have made has been devastating. Teams may be able to keep one of them in check, but keeping both at bay is a nightmare for any defense. Let’s not forget that the Dawgs have D’Andre Swift, a young man with speed to burn who may just end up being the next great running back to come out of Athens. If the running game gets going, this thing could easily swing Georgia’s way.
It would be easy to look at the 48 points that Georgia gave up in the Rose Bowl as a sign that the defense is weak, but you need to look at the season as a whole. The Georgia defense gave up an average of just 18 PPG, and they were particularly tough against the run. Considering that Alabama QB Jalen Hurts has done most of the damage with his feet, stopping the run may force him into throwing situations, where he is not often at his most comfortable. This could well allow Georgia to force turnovers, which is something their defense has done all season long.
If both defenses play up to their ability, field position is going to play a critical role in who ends up winning this game. Kicking to Mecole Hardman could prove to be disastrous for Alabama, as this young man has proven time and again that he is a legitimate threat on punt and kick returns, averaging over 11 yards per return. You should also keep an eye on kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, as his 55-yard FG right at the half in the Rose Bowl seemed to serve as a catalyst for a Georgia comeback. Punter Cameron Nizialek has also proven to be a great addition to the Georgia special teams this season.
We spoke earlier about all the players who decided to return for their senior year, and many of them have made it clear that they did so because of their coach. Kirby Smart has done an incredible job in just 2 seasons in Georgia, and given the recruiting class already committed in 2018, this is a program that appears to be on the brink of greatness. Kirby Smart would love nothing more than being able to get one over on his old boss, a task that has proven impossible for other former Saban assistant coaches over the years
