2018 Belmont Stakes: Betting Odds, Contenders, Lineup
Horse racing has a dedicated group of followers and bettors who keep up with what is going on every day. Once the Triple Crown races roll around, though, it seems that everyone wants a little piece of the action. While the Kentucky Derby usually gets the biggest slice of the betting pie, you can bet that it will the 150th Belmont Stakes, which will go this coming Saturday, June 9th, that will get the lion’s share this year. That’s because we are on Triple Crown alert, with Justify looking to become just the 13th horse to achieve what is a very tough goal. So for the Belmont Stakes let’s take a look at the favorite, as well as the horses that will be out to cause the upset.

2018 Belmont Stakes Line-up and Odds
We do not yet have post positions for the 9 horses that will make up the Belmont Stakes field this weekend, as that draw will be made tomorrow afternoon. Given that this is a much smaller field than what we see in the Kentucky Derby, the post draw is not quite as important.
The early betting odds see Justify in as a 4-5 favorite, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. He is looking to carve out a slice of history, and given how well he performed in the previous two races in the Triple Crown, he is going to get a lot of money wagered on him.
Next up is Hofburg, who is in at odds of 4-1. He already faced Justify at the Kentucky Derby, and while he was a distant 7th, he was bumped and boxed at the start of the race. That he was able to close ground and get up to 7th says a lot about this horse.
At 7-1, we have Bravazo, the horse that finished second to Justify at the Preakness Stakes a couple of weeks ago. He is perhaps the biggest danger here, as he looked as though he had a lot left in the tank coming home in that one. With this race set at a mile and a half, he could run them all down coming home.
Vino Rosso is in at 8-1 and is a horse that I think could be in line to spring the upset. He was 9th in the Derby and did not seem to care for the muddy track. I expect a better performance from him here.
Rounding out the rest of the field is Tenfold at 10-1, followed by Blended Citizen (14-1), Gronkowski (25-1), Noble Indy (33-1), and Free Drop Billy at 50-1.
2018 Belmont Stakes Contenders
There are some who see this race as Justify’s to lose, but history has shown us that this is seldom the case. Winning 3 major stakes races in a very short span of time is tough enough, but needing to run a mile and a half in the final leg is what often proves to be the killer blow. Justify deserves to be the favorite, but it would be no huge surprise if he lost. The Belmont Stakes has seen more than its fair share of longshot winners over the years, and we may see another on Saturday. If there is to be an upset, it will likely be either Hofburg, Bravazo, or Vino Rosso that pulls it off, with Bravazo the most likely candidate in my opinion.
