2018 Belmont Stakes: Odds, Predictions and Picks
The bookies are going to be seeing a ton of action this coming Saturday, June 9, as that is when the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, is set to go. As always, it will be Belmont Park in New York that hosts the race, but the one thing that is different his year is that we have a horse going all out to win the Triple Crown. It’s a feat that has only been delivered 12 times in almost a century and a half of racing, so it’s no real surprise that interest is high and that bookies are taking a huge number of wagers, even days before the race goes off. Let’s take a closer look at the 150th Belmont Stakes.

2018 Belmont Stakes Odds
It’s probably no real surprise to anyone that Justify is the 4-5 favorite in the early odds. Expect those odds to stay where they are or perhaps become even more unfavorable for bettors. There is going to be a lot of money heading in his direction, as casual bettors are likely to go all in on a horse that is going after the Triple Crown.
There are 8 other horses in this field, but I believe that only 3 of them have a realistic shot at causing what would be a massive upset. Let’s not forget that this is the 3rd race in a very short space of time for Justify, and that the mile and a half race is a lot longer than most horses are used to running. There is a reason why so few horses have been able to win all 3 races over the years. There is also a reason why upsets happen and longshots hit the finishing line first at the Belmont Stakes.
At the top of the list of horses with a shot at causing the upset is Hofburg, who is in on the M/L at odds of 4-1. Hofburg raced in the Kentucky Derby, and while his 7th place finish may not appear to be anything to write home about, it is worth noting that he had a rough trip, hitting trouble a couple of times before mowing them down coming home. He is likely to get a clean trip here, so look out.
Bravazo is in at 7-1 and is the horse that looks the most likely to cause Justify some problems. After all, he ran second at the Preakness, and you got the sense that if that race was a little longer, he may have got the job done. He will have a mile and a half to get it done here. I would also keep an eye out for Vino Rosso, who ran 9th in the Kentucky Derby. He looks like the kind of horse that always seems to excel at the Belmont Stakes.
2018 Belmont Stakes Predictions
I have been watching horse racing long enough to know that we should expect the unexpected. This is a race that has historically been a nightmare for the favorite, which is why I think Justify might be in trouble here. The distance is an absolute killer and can tax even the best of horses. I have a hunch that we are going to see an upset this weekend, with either Bravazo or Vino Rosso striking the killer blow on another Triple Crown dream.
