It’s never good to go on a losing streak in the MLB, but when it comes in the final month of the season, the ability to pull out of it and get back in the hunt becomes incredibly tough. This is especially true in the National League this season, as we are looking at some close races in both the division and the Wild Card races. The biggest shift taking place right now is in the NL West, where the Arizona Diamondbacks headed into last weekend with the lead, but now find themselves down in third. It has been a seismic shift that is sure to have rocked this team to the core. They have a huge series coming up this weekend, as they will welcome in the Atlanta Braves for 4 MLB Division Leaders Series of Games. The Braves are nor playing particularly well either right now, but have the benefit of their chasing pack in the East all struggling at the same time. It’s desperation time for the Diamondbacks right now, and they really need to get something out of this series if they are to stay alive in the playoff hunt.

Division LeadersThe Braves continue to hold a 4-game lead in the NL East, but they are somewhat backing into the postseason right now. After losing to the Boston Red Sox on Monday night, the Braves have now fallen to just 4-6 in their last 10 games. The good news for Atlanta is that the Philadelphia Phillies, the only team with a shot at catching them in the division, are also falling apart at this time, losing 4 straight games. The Braves will head to Arizona on Thursday to begin a 7-game road trip, with the 3-game series against the Giants coming after this one. The Braves are 39-29 on the road and lost 2 of 3 to the D-backs when they met earlier this season. That series was very much a low-scoring affair, with both teams averaging just 2 RPG in that series.

Division Leaders

Division LeadersThe Diamondbacks are on the slide, losing 4 straight and 7 of their last 10 games. Their lead at the top of the division has now turned into a game and a half deficit, with the Rockies and the Dodgers both jumping over Arizona. Arizona lost 3 of 4 to the Dodgers in a critical series that started their slide, and then followed that up with a loss in the opening game of their series against the San Diego Padres, a team they really need to be beating. The Diamondbacks have a winning record at home, but at 35-32, it is not entirely convincing. They are just 3-3 in the last 6 games they have played on their own ballpark. Arizona needs to get something out of this series with time running out on the season.

Division Leaders

Division LeadersNeither of these teams are playing particularly well right now, so this is a tough one to call. I am leaning towards the Braves here, though, and am taking them to win 3 of 4.
