MLB Must Watch over the Weekend – April 06 Edition
We are still in the very early stages of the new MLB season, which is why no-one is getting too carried away with positive starts or too down on slow starts. Certainly, some of the teams that we expected to be in the World Series mix this year have come out of the gate slowly, but a few losses taken at this stage of the season tend to have a very little impact on how things start to take shape as the season progresses. That said, it is still fun to watch as every team in the league tries to establish a footing in the early going. There are a few baseball series this weekend that really jump out given those starts, so let’s take a closer look.

Atlanta Braves Vs Colorado Rockies
One of the biggest surprises in the opening week of the season has been the play of the Atlanta Braves, who have gone 4-2. It’s not just that they are winning but rather how they are doing it, scoring runs at a rather impressive clip. They will get a real test this weekend when they go on the road to face a Colorado Rockies team that I believe are a true dark horse this season. This will be the home opener for the Rockies, and we all know that they are a much better team at home than on the road. If you want to see a lot of offense this weekend, this may be the series for you.
Chicago Cubs Vs Milwaukee Brewers
While it’s probably still too early to tell, signs are pointing towards the NL Central being one of the most competitive in the MLB. The Pirates have come flying out the gate, while the Brewers are picking up where they left off last season. The Chicago Cubs, everyone’s favorite to win this division, are off to a rocky start, although they have yet to play a game in their own ballpark. This series may help set the tone as to how the rest of the season may play out in this division, so definitely one to watch.
LA Dodgers Vs San Francisco Giants
The AL West sent 3 teams to the playoffs last year, so we all knew that this division was going to be incredibly competitive again. The Dodgers are expected to once again land on top of the division, but they are certainly not having things go their way in the early part of the season. This will be their second series with the Giants in the early going, with the first ending in a 4-game split. Both of these teams are having problems getting runs across the plate, but both are also getting solid pitching. This may be the series to watch if you are a fan of pitching duels.
San Diego Padres Vs Houston Astros
One of the biggest questions heading into the new MLB season was whether the Houston Astros would suffer a similar World Series hangover to the one experienced by the Cubs last year. Early signs would appear to indicate that the Astros are more than ready to go out and defend their title, as they have opened the season with a 6-1 record. They already have a +21 run differential, tied for best in the league, and will more than likely extend that number with a weekend series over the struggling San Diego Padres.
