By the time we hit this stage of the MLB season, we usually have a very solid idea of which teams might be the most likely to make it to the World Series. Over in the American League, it is the Boston Red Sox and the defending champion Houston Astros that are making the biggest waves. Things are not so obvious in the National League, though, as no team has really emerged to be a clear favorite to win a division and move on. All the races are incredibly tight, including the Wild Card, where any of 7 or 8 teams could emerge to make it into the postseason. This is not how things were supposed to be, as most people thought that the Dodgers would be the team to beat. As it stands right now, the team that lost to the Astros in the World Series last season are not even assured of a playoff spot this year. The Dodgers will play their second straight interleague MLB series to start the week, as they head into Oakland to face the A’s.

Why bet on the LA DodgersWhile this season has not gone as expected for the Dodgers, it is fair to suggest that injuries have played a bit of a role. With Alex Wood forced to leave the game against the Astros on the weekend, every one of the Dodgers starting rotation has been out injured at some point in the season. The acquisition of Manny Machado was supposed to be what put this team over the top, but the slugger has yet to post great numbers. In his 17 games with the Dodgers, Machado has just 2 HR and 5 RBI, although he did play well in a win over the Astros on Sunday, a victory that allowed the Dodgers to escape the sweep. By losing 2 of 3 to the Astros, LA saw their interleague record this season fall to 7-6. That record includes a split with the A’s when they met earlier this season.

MLB Series Los Angeles Dodgers Vs Oakland As 2
MLB Series Los Angeles Dodgers Vs Oakland As 3Seemingly from out of nowhere, the Oakland A’s are very suddenly right back in the playoff picture. They come into the new week on a 6-game winning streak, a run that has taken them to 7-3 in their last 10 games. That run has helped Oakland get to within 4 games of the lead in the West, where the defending World Series champions are still on top. Perhaps more importantly, though, the A’s are now in sole possession of the final Wild Card spot in the AL. The second half of the season has been incredible for Oakland, as they have gone 12-4 in the 16 games played since the All-Star Break. It’s a great run of form to be sure, but they cannot afford to slip now. You certainly like their chances at home, where they are 32-22 this season.

MLB Series Los Angeles Dodgers Vs Oakland As 5
The A’s are on a roll right now and have a chance to really put some pressure on the Astros if they can have another big week. Oakland are 11-7 in interleague games this season, and I think they get both of these against the Dodgers.
