Los Angeles Dodgers (37-33) at Chicago Cubs (40-28)
With their Monday series opener postponed because of rain, the Dodgers and Cubs will square off in a doubleheader on Tuesday. L.A. has picked up the pace in a big way in recent weeks after a slow start and come into this series opener having gone 17-6 over their last 23 games. Chicago has also been playing solid baseball in going 15-8 over their last 23 games. Chicago move into a virtual tie for first place with Milwaukee in the NL Central by taking two of three from St. Louis over the weekend while L.A. is two game behind Arizona in the NL West after taking two of three from San Francisco this past weekend.
Seattle Mariners (49-26) at New York Yankees (47-22)
The Yankees split a doubleheader against Washington on Monday to improve to 7-3 over their last 10 games while Seattle split a four-game set against Boston over the weekend to go an identical 7-3 over their last 10. The Yankees are tied for first place in the AL East with Boston while Seattle has fallen two games behind defending World Series champion Houston in the AL West after leading the division virtually all season long. These two World Series hopefuls will kick off a thee-game set starting on Tuesday.
Boston Red Sox (49-24) at Minnesota Twins (31-37)
Boston has gone 6-4 over their last 10 and sit in a virtual tie for first place in the AL East with the Yankees. Minnesota has gone a slightly more modest 5-5 over their last 10 games and sits in third place in the AL Central, 5.5 games behind division-leading Cleveland and 2.5 games behind second-place Detroit. The twins will host Boston in a three-game set that gets underway on Tuesday night.
St. Louis Cardinals (37-33) at Philadelphia Phillies (38-32)
The Cardinals and Phillies will be back at it on Tuesday and Wednesday to wrap up a three-game set after Philly took the series opener 6-5 in 10 innings on Monday. Philadelphia has won three straight and six of 10 heading into game 2 of this series and remains one of the most surprising teams in all of baseball this season. St. Louis has struggled in going 4-6 over the same span and sits in third place in the NL Central, four games behind the Cubs and Brewers.
