NBA Betting Odds – With Boston Back at Home For Game 5 Against Cavs, Can C’s Hold it Down?
With the home team winning each of the first four games in the Eastern Conference Finals and the Boston Celtics back at home for Game 5, the only question that NBA basketball betting enthusiasts need to answer is whether or not the gritty C’s can hold down the fort against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. If you’re looking to find out which team is offering the best NBA betting odds value when this game goes down live from TD Garden on Wednesday night, then let’s find out right now. Before I offer up my expert pick on Game 5, I guess I should share with you, that I’ve gone a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS on the East Finals up to this point.

What: Cleveland Cavaliers (59-37) at Boston Celtics (65-32)
When: Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at 8:30 PM ET
Where: TD Garden
The Line: Cleveland Cavaliers -1 -110 | O 206½ -110
Cleveland got smacked around in their humbling 108-83 Game 1 road loss and then got dominated in the second half of their 107-94 Game 2 loss in Boston. However, LeBron James and company bounced back nicely to wallop the Celtics 116-86 in Game 3 on Saturday and then followed that up with a good effort to get past Boston 111-102 in Game 4 on Monday night.
The Cavs however, needed a 44-point performance from LeBron James to overcome a Celtics team that has shown more fight than any other team in the playoffs this year. Cleveland also got 14 points from Kyle Korver off the bench and 13 points apiece from Tristan Thompson and George Hill, but they got outscored by Boston by six points in the second half.
James is averaging a stupendous 33.7 points and nine assists this postseason, but Kevin Love is averaging just 14.9 points and 10.6 rebounds. Now, the Cavs are expecting a raucous atmosphere when they get to Boston for Game 5.
“We know it’s going to be a hostile environment,” James said. “We know their fans are going to be very energetic. But we have to just have the same mindset we had when we came home for these two games. If our minds are there, we put ourselves in a position to be victorious.”
The more balanced Celtics got a team-high 25 points from blossoming shooting guard Jaylen Brown, 17 points from rookie forward Jason Tatum and 16 points from point guard Terry Rozier while Al Horford added 15 points and Marcus Morris, 10 points. This postseason, the C’s are getting a team-high 18.0 points per game from Tatum, while Brown averages 17.8 points per game Rozier is putting up 17.1 points per contest and Al Horford is contributing 16.3 points per game. Morris (12.4 ppg) and backup guard Marcus Smart (10.0 ppg) round out Boston’s half-dozen double-digit scorers.
Head coach Brad Stevens is focused on Game 5 and wants his team to relish the challenge.
“It’s the best two out of three to go to the NBA Finals. Doesn’t get better than that,” he said. “Ultimately, anybody that didn’t think this was going to be tough, I mean, everything is tough. In this deal, it’s a blast to have to grit your teeth, get up off the mat and go after it again.”
I have no idea why Boston is just a Pick ‘Em in this contest, seeing as how they thoroughly destroyed Cleveland in Games 1 and 2, but I think the outcome of Game 5 is a virtual lock from where I’m sitting. Despite losing Game 4, I loved the way the Celtics showed some fight in the second half and fully believe that will carry over into Game 5. Plus, I love Boston’s balanced offense where every player n the floor can score the ball as opposed to Cleveland’s LeBron James carry-us-at-all-costs approach.
The Cavaliers are just 8-17 ATS in their last 25 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while Boston has gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss, 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS loss and a bankroll-boosting 18-6 ATS in their last 24 home games. Boston wins outright to cover the chalk people!
Pick: Boston 112 Cleveland 104
