NBA Playoff Betting – Davis and Pelicans Look to Avoid Elimination Against KD and Revitalized Warriors
No matter what goes down in the rest of their second-round playoff series, Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans can keep their heads up knowing they’ve had a great run this postseason.
Having said that, the Pels will be going all out as they look to avoid elimination in game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series against Kevin Durant and the defending champion Golden State Warriors when they square off at Oracle Arena on Tuesday night.
If you’re looking to find out which team is offering the best betting value in this Game 5 closeout contest, then let’s get to my expert NBA playoff pick right now!
Go bigger or go home!
— New Orleans Pelicans (@PelicansNBA) May 8, 2018
What: New Orleans Pelicans (53-37) at Golden State Warriors (65-26)
When: Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 10:30 PM
Where: Oracle Arena
The Line: Golden State -11 -110 | -700 | U 227 -110
New Orleans Pelicans was looking to tie their second-round series up at 2-2 after winning Game 3 119-100 on Friday. Unfortunately, they never had a chance in Sunday’s 119-92 blowout loss at home.
Anthony Davis had a team-high 26 points but shot just 8 for 22 from the field to get there. E’Twaun Moore added 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting and Jrue Holiday chipped in 19 points on 8 of 16 shooting.
“We missed a lot of easy shots, a couple game-plan discipline mistakes early on and they came out on fire,” Davis said. “We just can’t afford to shoot that poorly.
“But we’ve got another one,” Davis added. “Any time we’ve been punched in the mouth, we’ve always responded very well.
Nikola Mirotic and Rajon Rondo both struggled with seven and six points on 1 of 7 and 2 of 10 shooting respectively+
“We didn’t have the looks we normally have,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. “We pressed a little bit when we got behind.”
The Warriors got a game-high 38 points and nine rebounds from Kevin Durant on 15 of 27 shooting while Steph Curry added 23 points on 8 of 17 shooting. Klay Thompson and Zaza Pachulia added 13 and 12 points respectively.
“I just try to tell myself that I’m at my best when I don’t care what happens after the game, the outcome or anything,” Durant said. “That’s when I’m free and having fun out there, and forceful. That was a thing — just try to play with a force no matter if I missed shots or not, just keep shooting, keep being aggressive.”
“Just find ways to get him in scoring positions,” Curry said. “Sometimes, that’s not really hard to do — just throw it to him. Just keep the game simple at that point because he’s such a great scorer, you don’t have to really overthink things.”
I really like the effort New Orleans has put up in this series, but the fact of the matter is that the Pelicans just don’t have enough firepower or really, depth, to keep up with a well-oiled Golden State Warriors team that is super focused right now as they anticipate a conference finals brawl against Houston.
While I’m going with Golden State for the win, I like New Orleans for the ATS cover against the high, double-digit point spread. The Pelicans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games, 20-7 ATS in their last 27 vs. Western Conference and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games overall. Conversely, the Warriors are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games. The Dubs win but the Pels cover the chalk!
Pick: New Orleans +11
