After blowing a golden opportunity to take a commanding 3-1 series lead on Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors are now tasked with winning two out of three against the Houston Rockets if they want to reach the 2018 NBA Finals. Let’s find out right now!

What: Golden State Warriors (68-27) at Houston Rockets (74-21)
When: Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 9:00 PM ET
Where: Toyota Center
The Line: Houston Rockets pk -110 | U 219½ -110
The Warriors got a team-high 28 points from Steph Curry and 27 points from Kevin Durant, but Curry shot just 10 for 26 in the loss while Durant shot an equally unimpressive 9 for 24. Only two other players managed to reach double digits in scoring with Draymond Green adding 11 points and Klay Thompson 10 points. Golden State played with key linchpin, Andre Iguodala who sat with a knee injury.
“Now we’ve got to fight and really understand that this is a true playoff-type experience,” Curry said.
The Warriors were limited to a mind-boggling 12 points in the fourth quarter.
“I felt like in the fourth quarter we just ran out of gas,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “Scored 12 points. Tried to buy a little rest for our guys, but yeah, they just outplayed us in the fourth and they earned it.”
The Rockets got a game-high 30 points from James Harden on 11 for 26 shooting while Chris Paul added 27 big points on an efficient 10 for 20 effort from the field. Eric Gordon was the only other player to score in double digits with 14 points off the bench, but Houston’s defense was nothing short of spectacular in forcing the high-scoring Warriors into a dismal 39.3 percent shooting night and 33.3 percent (9-for-27) effort from downtown.
“I thought this is the highest level we’ve ever played defensively, without a doubt,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said, “because we’re talking about the best offensive team ever.”
“It’s a state of mind,” Paul said afterward. “We grind all summer long, all season long, for these moments. So we push each other out of those timeouts. Like, ‘JH, you’re not tired.’ ‘TA, you’re not tired.’ Mental toughness is just as important as physical toughness and I think guys on our team showed that tonight.”
Well. The Warriors blew it big-time in Game 4 and now they’re facing a Rockets team that fully believes they can win this series. Having said that, I’ve got to believe that Houston is going to come out at home in Game 5 completely fired up and that they’ll somehow find a way to hold it down in H-Town to get the narrow win and ATS cover as slight 1-point favorites. There aren’t many teams that can match Golden State’s offensive firepower, but the Rockets can. Not only that but right now I believe they’re probably up in the heads of Golden State’s quartet of all-stars and the rest of their team as well.
The Warriors are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Conference Finals games, but they’re also an uninspiring 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games playing on 1 days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games. Conversely, the Rockets are a robust 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest. I’m going with Houston to get the series-altering win on Thursday night to push the defending champs to the brink of elimination.
