NBA Betting: Top Predictions for the 2017-18 Season
Perhaps it is too early to start making predictions for the 2017 – 18 NBA Betting Season or can we take advantage of the NBA Odds today? As any sports fan or bettor would know, it’s never too early to start thinking about potential playoff teams, MVP predictions, conference champions, and even overall champions.
There’s been plenty of player movement during the off season, and that could mean a change of dynamic for some teams. However, there are some teams in particular that already have the right members in place to make predictions a little more straightforward.
It’s early days yet, and things could easily change as the season gets underway. But, for those who like to take some informed risks on future bets, or for anyone who is simply curious about the upcoming season, these are some of the top predictions for the NBA in 2017.

The Golden State Warriors Will Win the Western Conference
Here’s a prediction that probably won’t surprise too many people… The Golden State Warriors will win the Western Conference.
Bookmakers and sports analysts agree, the Golden State Warriors have the roster, the coach, and the recent performance figures, all of which help to secure them the win in the Western Conference this season. If you’re looking for an even bolder prediction, then it would be that the Warriors could go on to win 73 games in the season, and then blitz the playoffs with 16 – 0.
How will this be possible? Let’s not forget that in the 2015 – 16 season, a number of key Warriors players were already aiming for a 73 game winning season. They ultimately stumbled in the finals, and didn’t win the title. There was some undue pressure from within the team in that season, but it won’t exist for 2017 – 18. The Warriors have all of the right players in place to make it happen. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson, will all be a tighter unit than they were last season. They know each other better now, and they’ll be able to play more fluid basketball.
The team is not just relying on the big names, and they’ve got bench talent as well as some quality free agents who will join this season. Omri Casspi and Nick Young are two players who could impress this season.
The Warriors simply don’t have any real competition in the Western Conference, and this looks like a sure future bet at this time. Going for the over on a 67½ regular season wins looks pretty safe with how the conference is stacking up.
The Warriors Will Also Win the NBA Finals, While the Cavaliers Will Lose to Them
The Warriors are set to dominate the Western Conference, through the playoffs, and then win the NBA Championship (October odds at -220). They’re the overwhelming bookmaker’s favorite, and for good reason. Their biggest threat in the Eastern Conference is the Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBA Championship (October odds at +450).
LeBron James is a brilliant player who has the ability to lift any team that he plays for. It’s not just about his personal talent, but also the way in which he can fit into a team. He creates healthy competition which can often bring the best out of everyone on the court, and in training. The Cavaliers will win the Eastern Conference, just as easily as the Warriors will win the West. However, in the finals, it’s hard to see the Cavs pulling off the same dominance that the Warriors are expected to show.
Many will assume that players like James, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Lowe, and Derrick Rose; would mean that the Cavs can compete. The reality is that all of the best players in Cleveland were at their best 5 or 6 seasons ago. Even LeBron can’t maintain his current level forever. The Golden State Warriors are younger and more consistent, and some of their best players have not even peaked.
The Cavaliers would be lucrative at +450 for a future bet, but the risk is high and unnecessary. A number of things would have to go catastrophically wrong, such as season ending injuries, to remove the Warriors as Championship favorites.
Just look at Cleveland’s 0 – 4 record from preseason games, and it’s clear that this is not a team that will challenge the West.
NBA Season: The NBA MVP Award Will Be Closely Contested
There’s more than a handful of quality players that will be lined up for the MVP award this year. The NBA is quite unique when compared to other sports, because of the amount of star power that exists throughout the association. Most teams have multiple star players, and most teams have MVP caliber players. This can make it extremely hard for predictions and for eventual MVP selection. For 2017, these are the three players that we think are in with the best chances.
Kevin Durant – Durant won the Finals MVP award last year, and won the season MVP award back in 2014. This year, he could be headed for another one. The odds definitely favor him, as do fans of the Warriors. Durant has all of the momentum from his first championship, from his Finals MVP award, and from beating LeBron James at the height of the competition. Durant missed 20 games last year, and arguably could have been MVP if not for injury. October odds for Durant for season MVP are +450.
Giannis Antetokounmpo – He’s still young and he’s still rising. Giannis led Milwaukee for stats in points, rebounds, blocks, assists, and steals for the 2016 – 17 season. He’s getting better every time he steps on the court, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets recognized as an MVP. October odds on Antetokounmpo are +900.
LeBron James – How could he not be a contender? He is undisputedly one of the best players in the history of the NBA. With four MVP awards already, as well as three years’ worth of titles, James doesn’t have much left to prove. His team is weaker in defense than some of their rivals, but James often puts in leading individual performances. He’ll be 33 this year, but it’s likely he’s still got an MVP award in him, even if the Cavs don’t look likely to win the title. October odds on James are +450.
