You know that you are getting to the important part of the NBA season when you start to see letters beside the team names in the standings. Those letters indicate the teams that have punched their playoff ticket, as well as those who are eliminated from contention. The teams without those letters are those still embroiled in either trying to secure a playoff spot or land a better seeding heading into the postseason. What it all means is that time is running out, and that every game on the NBA schedule is a potentially huge one. Let’s look at some of the big games on tap this weekend, making some predictions as we go.

LA Clippers (37-30) Vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (41-29)

Game Information

What: LA Clippers (37-30) Vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (41-29)
When: Friday, March 16 at 08:00 PM ET
Where: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
TV: NBATV, FSW2, FSOK.
The Line: Oklahoma City Thunder -5 -110 | -210 | U 224 -110

The battle for playoff places in the Western Conference is going to be fun to watch as we enter the homestretch. The Thunder are currently in the #5 spot but are a mere 2 ½ games up on the LA Clippers, who are sitting below the playoff line. It goes without saying that this is a huge game for both teams, although perhaps more so for the Clippers. Both teams are n a good run of form as they have each won 7 of their last 10 games. The Clippers are a game above .500 on the road but are going against an OKC team that is an impressive 24-11 at home.

Predicted Score: LA Clippers 106 Oklahoma City Thunder 108.

Indiana Pacers (40-29) Vs. Washington Wizards (39-30)

Game Information

What: Indiana Pacers (40-29) Vs. Washington Wizards (39-30)
When: Saturday, March 17 at 07:00 PM EST
Where: Capital One Arena, Washington, DC
TV: FSMW, CNSW.
The Line: TBA

The Indiana Pacers continue to occupy the #3 spot in the Eastern Conference, although just a half game up on the Cleveland Cavaliers and 1-game up on the Washington Wizards, the team they will go on the road to face on Saturday night. Neither team has really been lighting it up of late, particularly the Wizards, who are just 5-5 in their last 10 games. They are a mere 4 games above .500 at home, so having that home court edge is by no means a huge advantage. I think this will be a tight one, but I like the Pacers to get the road win.

Predicted Score: Indiana Pacers 107 Washington Wizards 106.

Houston Rockets (54-14) Vs. New Orleans Pelicans (39-29)

Game Information

What: Houston Rockets (54-14) Vs. New Orleans Pelicans (39-29)
When: Saturday, March 17 at 07:00 PM EST
Where: Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA
TV: FSN
The Line: Houston Rockets -7 -110 | O 227 -110

After finally seeing their 17-game win streak brought to an end, the Rockets have returned to winning ways, winning 3-straight to go to 9-1 in their last 10. The Pelicans have been hot, too, winning 7 of their last 10, although actually performing better on the road than they have at home this season. As good as New Orleans has been of late, they are still not guaranteed a playoff spot, so really need to continue picking up wins, especially since the teams they are battling all seem o be playing well right now. I like the Rockets to keep winning in a fairly comfortable one here.

Predicted Score: Houston Rockets 114 New Orleans Pelicans 104.

Houston Rockets 2018 NBA season

Portland Trail Blazers (42-26) Vs. LA Clippers (37-30)

Game Information

What: Portland Trail Blazers (42-26) Vs. LA Clippers (37-30)
When: Sunday, March 18 at 10:30 PM EST
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
TV: NBATV, CSNN, FSW2
The Line: TBA

The fact that we have featured the Clippers twice in this preview tells you just how big this weekend is for them as they try to get back above the playoff line. They certainly have their work cut out for them against a Portland team that is coming into this weekend on an impressive 11-game winning streak, good enough to get them into the #3 spot in the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers are now 3 games above .500 on the road this season and are looking to cement that 3rd place finish, as they really can’t go any higher than that.

Predicted Score: Portland Trail Blazers 108 LA Clippers 104.
