T-5. Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks’ 2017 Opponents Record: 134-122 (.523)
Analysis: Seattle opens up with winnable road dates at Denver and Chicago and another winnable home date against Dallas, hell, Seattle could get off to a 4-0 start if they can beat the Cardinals in Arizona in Week 4. They’ll have their hands full against the revamped Rams in Week 5, but at least they’re playing at home. Another winnable road date against Oakland is on the docket for Week 6 before Seattle has a bye in Week 7. from week 9 through Week 12, Seattle has a quartet of tough games at the Chargers, at the Rams, at home against Green Bay and at Carolina. However, for me, Seattle’s schedule doesn’t look nearly as daunting as the numbers say it will be and I believe Russell Wilson and company will be back in the playoffs in 2018 after going 9-7 last year.
T-5. Los Angeles Rams
Rams’ 2017 Opponents Record: 134-122 (.523)
Analysis: The Rams are now a legitimate Super Bowl contender after going 11-5 last season under first-year head coach Sean McVay, but they’ve got a difficult schedule in 2018 according to the numbers. L.A. hosts the in city rival Chargers in Week 3, before hosting Minnesota one week later and then visiting Seattle the following week. The Rams also have difficult games at San Francisco in Week 7, at home against Green Bay in Week 8, at New Orleans in Week 9. In Week 10, the Rams are back at home against Seattle and then in Week 11, they get a visit from the Chiefs. The reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles visit in Week 15 and the Rams close out their 2018 season with a pair of division battles at Arizona and at home against San Francisco.
T-5. Cleveland Browns
Browns’ 2017 Opponents Record: 134-122 (.523)
Analysis: Cleveland may have made a series of smart offseason moves and they’ve got two of the top four picks in this year’s NFL Draft but the Browns also have a gauntlet of games on their 2018 schedule. After opening up at home against Pittsburgh and then, at New Orleans, Cleveland has another trio of tough games against the Steelers, Chiefs, and Falcons in Weeks 8, 9 and 10.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers’ 2017 Opponents Record: 136-120 (.531)
Analysis: The Bucs could be hard-pressed to improve on their 5-11 mark in 2017 seeing as how they open in New Orleans and then host Philadelphia and Pittsburgh the next two weeks. Still, to me, it looks like the Buccaneers’ most difficult games will be their six annual matchups against their NFC South division rivals.
T-2. New Orleans Saints
Saints’ 2017 Opponents Record: 137-119 (.535)
Analysis: New Orleans also has a quartet of tough contests against the Panthers and Falcons, but in addition to that, the Saints also host the Rams, Eagles, and Steelers in 2018.
T-2. Detroit Lions
Lions’ 2017 Opponents Record: 137-119 (.535)
Analysis: In Week 3, the Lions are on the road at New England, then they’re back at home against Green Bay in Week 5. In Week 8, Seattle visits and one week later they’re in Minnesota. Detroit also has Carolina and the L.A. Rams at home in Weeks 11 and 13 before closing out the regular season at home against Minnesota and at Green Bay.
1. Green Bay Packers
Packers’ 2017 Opponents Record: 138-118 (.539)
Analysis: Green Bay will look to rebound from their 7-9 campaign last season, but they’ve got a difficult schedule that includes road dates at the Rams and Patriots in Week 8 and 9 in addition to their Week 11 road date at Seattle and Week 13 home date against the Falcons. The Packers also have a pair of tough divisional matchups against Minnesota in Weeks 2 and 12.
As far as specific weeks that look difficult, Week 1 gets the season started off with a bunch of tough contest like the regular season opener between Philly and Atlanta.
The Rams are at Oakland on Monday night, the Chargers host the Chiefs in one of their two AFC West divisional matchups while the Patriots host the revamped Houston Texans and Minnesota host San Francisco. Basically, Week 1 features a bunch of matchups that look like they could literally go, either way, making it one of – if not the – most difficult dates on the entire 2018 schedule.
