Two Super Bowl hopefuls and four playoff hopefuls will be in action in their respective Week 3 NFL Preseason contests on Friday night when Carolina hosts New England, the New York Jets and Giants battle in the Big Apple and the Washington Redskins host the Denver Broncos in the nation’s capitol.

If you’re looking to find out where some good NFL preseason betting value lies, then consider your ticket punched.

Highlight Trio of Week 3 Preseason Picks 1
🏈: NFL Preseason – New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers

🎰: Carolina Panthers pk -110 | U 46 -110

New England moved to 2-0 in the preseason by beating Philadelphia 37-20 in Week2 while Carolina also moved to 2-0 by beating Miami 27-20. For this week 3 matchup, I think the simple pick is Carolina as a less than field goal home favorite. I know both teams will be playing their starters for approximately a half, but I’m thinking Carolina has the edge once this one goes to each team’s backups. Not only that, but the Panthers have a dual-threat star on their hands in running back Christian McCaffrey and I’m expecting to see a heavy dose of the second-year former Stanford star after Ron Rivera foolishly failed to use his vast talents as a rookie last season. Getting the win in this one looks a lot more important for Cam Newton and Carolina than it does for Tom Brady and perennially powerful New England. The Panthers have won three of their last four home preseason games while covering the chalk in each win.

Pick: Carolina 27 New England 24

🏈: NFL Preseason – New York Giants at New York Jets

🎰: New York Jets -2½ -115 | -145 | U 42 -110

Davis Webb bounced back from a horrific performance in New York’s Week 1 preseason loss against Cleveland to complete 14 of 20 passes for one touchdown while leading the Giants to a solid 30-17 win over Detroit. Running back Wayne Gallman caught one touchdown pass and rushed for another in the win.

“Everyone says that wins don’t matter in the preseason, but they leave a much better feeling in the locker room,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said.

New York Jets’ prized rookie quarterback Sam Darnold look like a first-year signal-caller in the team’s 15-13 Week 2 loss to Washington.
Darnold completed 8 of 11 passes but threw a costly interception while taking a slight step backward from his eye-opening performance in New York’s preseason opener. Veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went 10 for 15 for 127 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

“Any game experience is huge,” said Darnold, who felt he played well but wasn’t as sharp as his 13 of 18 for 96 yards preseason debut. “I feel like I’m going to continue to grow and get better every single day, and that’s what I’m most excited about is to see how much I’m going to be able to grow and get better.”

Simply put, I’m going with the New York Jets to get the win in this Week 3 matchup simply because I like their quarterback situation a lot more than I like the Giants, once you get past each team’s starter. Darnold is in a three-way brawl with Bridgewater and veteran Josh McCown for the starting job and I believe all three are going to be looking to give their chances a big boost with a great performance in Week 3 that surpasses anything that Davis Webb does in this one. If you didn’t know, the Jets have won three straight home preseason games and six of their last seven overall while going 6-1 ATS along the way.

Pick: NY Jets 27 NY Giants 23

🏈: NFL Preseason – Denver Broncos at Washington Redskins
⏰: Fri. Aug 24, 2018, 7:30 PM ET

The Broncos fell to 0-2 on the preseason by losing to Chicago 24-23 this past weekend. Veteran Case Keenum went 8 for 13 for 78 yards, but the best news for Denver from this contest is that surging backup Chad Kelly continued to impress in a big way as he completed 7 of 9 passes for 90 yards and one touchdown. Third-stringer Paxton Lynch was again, outplayed by the newly cemented No. 2, Kelly.

“Scoring points always feels better,” said Keenum, who led two scoring drives in three possessions.

Washington squeaked past the New York Jets 15-13 last weekend to improve to 1-1 as veteran Alex Smith made his debut for the Redskins by going 4 of 6 for 48 yards in one series before giving way to backups Colts McCoy and Kevin Hogan who combined to go 19 of 26 for 198 yards with one pick.

For this Week 3 matchup, I’m going to advise you to back the Denver Broncos to get the outright road win, based mostly on the fact that I expect Chad Kelly to be the best backup on the field once the starters leave. Kelly has brought some serious energy to Denver’s offense and really if it were me, I’d be thinking about him challenging Case Keenum for the No. 1 job, although that’s not going to happen unless Keenum goes belly up.

While Washington has gone 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five home preseason games, I’m going with Denver, out of sheer desperation and some more eye-opening play from Chad ‘Swag’ Kelly.

Pick: Broncos 27 Redskins 24
