Stanley Cup Final: Vegas Golden Knights vs Washington Capitals Game 3
Vegas Golden Knights vs Washington Capitals Game 3 Game Information
During the course of the Stanley Cup playoffs, there is an expectation that we will see some one-sided match-ups, especially in the earlier rounds. As the postseason progresses, though, we all want to see series extended to 6 and 7 games, as that makes for a much more exciting experience for the impartial observer. This year’s version of the Stanley Cup Final could not be any more surprising, as it features a pair of teams that most people believed wouldn’t be there. No-one expects an expansion team to make the playoffs, never mind the Stanley Cup Final, but the Vegas Golden Knights have turned the entire league on its head. Given their rather dubious past performances in the playoffs, the consensus was that the Capitals would once again find a way to flame out in the early rounds, and while they did have a couple of close calls, they have proven to be a much more durable bunch this season. The Stanley Cup Final heads to Washington on Saturday night with the series delicately poised at 1-1.

Why bet on the Vegas Golden Knights
When you look down the line-up of the Vegas Golden Knights, you don’t really see a genuine goal-scorer jump out at you. That is why it was surprising to see this team become one of the top scorers in the league in the regular season, averaging 3.3 GPG. While they have relied heavily on defense and goaltending to get to the Stanley Cup Final, they proved in Game 1 that they can also win in shootout games, taking that one 6-4. They had the opportunity to put the Capitals under some real pressure with a win in Game 2 but ran into a hot goalie on their way to a 3-2 loss. The Golden Knight will now head into Washington for Games 3 and 4, looking for at least a split that would win them back home-ice advantage. In the regular season, the Knights were 22-14-5 on the road, but just 8-7-1 against teams from the Metropolitan Division.
Why bet on the Washington Capitals
The Capitals have leaned heavily on the exploits of their offense on their road to the Stanley Cup Final, but it was a save by their goaltender in Game 2 that has them heading home with the split. Braden Holtby made an unbelievable diving save in the third period of the last game, keeping his team in front and helping preserve the win. Anyone who knows hockey is well aware that it is often the goalies who make or break a series, and that save from Holtby certainly broke the hearts of the Vegas Golden Knights and their fans. Washington will now head back to their own building, where they were a stellar 28-11-2 in the regular season, although just 7-8-1 overall against teams from the Pacific Division.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I have the distinct feeling that this series is set for 7 games, and I think we may well see another split in Games 3 and 4. That said, I think Washington will take the series lead with a win in Game 3 on Saturday night.
Predicted Score: Washington Capitals 4 Vegas Golden Knights 2
