A few years back when the NHL top brass decided to change the division and playoff set-up, there was a lot of complaints from hockey purists. Those complaints have since been largely silenced, as the Wild Card set-up has proven to be a huge success. You need only look at the standings in both conferences to see just how tight things are in the East and West. With time ticking down on the regular season, every game now takes on a much higher level of importance. This week’s NHL schedule delivers some potentially great games just waiting to be wagered on, so let’s take a look at some of the best.

LA Kings Vs. Winnipeg Jets
What: LA Kings Vs Winnipeg Jets
When: Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 7:00 PM CT
Where: Bell MTS Centre
TV: ATTSN-RM, SNF
NHL Odds: Winnipeg Jets -1½ +145 | -200 | U 5½ -115
The Vegas Golden Knights look to have built an unassailable lead in the Pacific Division, but the battle for playoff spots behind them is about as exciting as it gets. The Kings are in the thick of it but are currently sitting just below the playoff line in the Wild Card race. They will bring a brutal road trip to an end on Tuesday night when they head into Winnipeg to face the Jets team tied for tops in the Central Division. The Kings can make their 7-game road trip a winning with a victory, but I think they are in for a bit of a beating here.
Predicted Score: LA Kings 2 Winnipeg Jets 5.
Calgary Flames Vs. Vegas Golden Knight
What: Calgary Flames at Vegas Golden Knights
When: Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 9:30 PM CT
Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV
TV: TSN3, FS-W
NHL Odds: TBA
After months of believing that the bubble would burst for the expansion Golden Knights, we now all believe that they are for real. They have opened up a big lead in the Pacific Division but are in for a tough one on Wednesday night against a Calgary Flames team that has been much more effective on the road than they have been at home this season. The Flames are entering desperation mode, as they are sitting below the playoff line right now, although it is close. Looking at goals in this one, and perhaps even OT.
Predicted Score: Calgary Flames 3 Vegas Golden Knights 4.
Washington Capitals Vs Florida Panthers
What: Washington Capitals Vs Florida Panthers
When: Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 6:30 PM CT
Where: BB&T Center, Sunrise, FL
TV: TVAS, FS-F, NBCSWA
NHL Odds: TBA
The Washington Capitals are back in their familiar position atop the Metropolitan Division, albeit by just a single point over the surging Pittsburgh Penguins. Regular season success is common for the Caps, but it’s playoff success that has eluded them. They will head to Florida to face the Panthers on Sunday night as they look to build on their lead. The Panthers are sitting below the playoff line and are in real danger of missing out if they don’t get things going soon. A win over the Caps might serve as a catalyst for a positive run, but I just don’t see it happening.
Predicted Score: Washington Capitals 5 Florida Panthers 1.
Pittsburgh Penguins Vs Carolina Hurricanes
What: Pittsburgh Penguins Vs Carolina Hurricanes
When: Friday, February 23, 2018, at 6:30 PM CT
Where: PNC Arena, Raleigh, NC
TV: TVAS, FS-CR, ATTSN-PT
NHL Odds: TBA
The Penguins are once again rounding into form at just the right time, going 8-1-1 in their last 10, which has taken them to within a point of the lead at the top of the Metropolitan Division. They have what looks to be a bit of a tricky road trip on Thursday night, as they head into Carolina Hurricanes territory to face a team that is grimly trying to hold on to the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes are coming into this week with a 3-game losing skid and need something positive out of this one. I don’t see that happening for them.
Predicted Score: Pittsburgh Penguins 4 Carolina Hurricanes 1
