2018 FIFA World Cup: Betting Odds to Win Group H
If you are a soccer fan and you are not excited about the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, then you may need to check for a pulse. We have spent the last week or so breaking down all the groups in the opening round, and we will finish that today with a closer look at Group H. Once we get that out of the way, we will start delivering previews and predictions for all the upcoming games. This particular group looks, on paper at least, like a 2-horse race between Colombia and Poland. As always, though, there is the possibility of a surprise or two, but will we see any in Group H?

Colombia reemerged on the world football scene with a bang when they entertained us all with a thrilling run to the quarter-finals in Brazil. It was very much the James Rodriguez show back then, with the young man scoring in all 5 games and collecting the Golden Boot in the process. He will be leading the way for Colombia once again, but he will also have Radamel Falcao there to take some of the scoring pressure off his shoulders. This team looks good enough to make a similar run this time around, although they will need to be better against the bigger teams in Russia.
You always have a shot at winning when you have one of the best strikers in the world on the field in every game. That is exactly what Poland has with Robert Lewandowski, a man who accounted for more than half of the 28 goals that Poland scored in their rather easy path to Russia. Sure, the Poles were not in a particularly tough qualifying group, but it can be easy to sleepwalk through those games and drop valuable points. Poland has that group over and done with early, and they will be looking for more of the same here.
The Senegalese are a tough lot to figure out, as they tend to lean more towards a defensive style of football despite having some legitimate attacking options. Sadio Mane is their go-to man up front, but he is often left playing a thankless role as his team looks to control the middle of the park and keep things tight at the back. Senegal only found the back of the net 10 times in their 6-game qualifying group, which should give you an idea of just how reluctant they are to have a go at teams. They may not be fun to watch, but they are going to be tough to break down.
Japan look as though they are set to be the whipping boys in this group given how things have gone for them of late. They really should have had no problem getting through a weak qualifying group, but they ended up making very hard work of things. Their form took another dip after qualification was complete, leading to the firing of the coach that got them to Russia. There is now a new man in charge, but you have to wonder if he has had enough time to get this team playing the style he wants.
