2018 FIFA World Cup: Expert Pick to Win Group E
As is the case with the group stage at every World Cup, there are some draws that appear to be a little more clear-cut than others. Trying to pick who will move on from each of the 8 groups can be challenging, but also very rewarding if all your wagers pay off. If you are looking for a bit of a gimme bet to get things rolling with your World Cup wagering, Group E might well be where you want to begin. Brazil is in as overwhelming favorites to come out on top of what is a rather weak group, and it would definitely be a real shock if they landed anywhere but first. The value here comes in trying to pinpoint who will finish behind Brazil, and I have gone with a bit of a longshot in Group E. Let’s take a look ahead at how I believe this group will play out, and if you agree with my predictions here, you can perhaps make yourself a tidy little profit.
Predicted Group E Winners – Brazil
Is there anyone in this group who can keep pace with the Brazilian offensive juggernaut? I don’t think so. Given that second place in this group may come down to goal difference, you can bet that each of the other 3 teams in here is going to park the bus when playing Brazil. They can pack the defense all they want, but the Brazilians will be fielding a group of players adept at picking the locks of even the most tightly knit defensive units. Brazil just have too many players capable of creating chances and finding the back of the net, and I think that will be reflected in just how easily they cut a swathe through this group. This is a real opportunity for Brazil to build some momentum heading into the knockout stage.
Who Gets the Other Qualifying Spot in Group E – Costa Rica
As the betting stands right now, Costa Rica are considered the least likely to win the group, but I believe they have a shot at finishing second. I don’t think we are going to see a lot of goals in the games that do not feature Brazil, and of the three other teams is this group, it is Costa Rica who have the attacking players to get the job done. Yes, there are some injury woes to consider with their strikers, but I believe that will all be a thing of the past once the action begins on June 14. This is a team that is well worth looking at as a second place finisher.
Who Misses Out in Group E – Switzerland and Serbia
The two teams, Switzerland and Serbia, who I think to miss out here both suffer from the same problem, which is that they cannot score the goals needed to make an impact in the World Cup. If I had to pick between the two, I would choose Serbia to finish third, simply because they have the ability to control the midfield, essentially shutting down dangerous attacks before they happen. I have them ahead of the Swiss, although I think we are potentially looking at a lot of 0-0 and 1-0 games here.
