FIFA World Cup France Vs Belgium Semi Finals: Betting Preview
When you have had a tournament as exciting and unpredictable as we have seen at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, it’s natural to not want it to ever come to an end, though. The inevitable end is arriving soon, though, as we are now down to the final four teams. The draw has made for an interesting turn of events, as we had one side that was a lot tougher than the other. It is France and Belgium who have made it to this stage by taking a much more difficult path than most, with the general consensus being that the winner of this one will be the team that will eventually be crowned as the champions of the world. If this tournament has taught us anything, though, it’s that we should come to expect the unexpected. France are in as slight favorites for this game in a match-up that features one of the best defenses in the tournament against one of the most exciting attacking teams. Can the French hold off the surging Belgians, or will that explosive counterattack prevail?

Why bet on France
Over the years, France have developed a reputation as being a supremely talented team made up of great individual talent, yet one that all too often plays down to the level of their competition. We saw that in their qualifying run to this FIFA World Cup, and we saw it again in the group stage, where the French picked up 7 of 9 points, yet looked sluggish against lesser opposition. Since that point, though, they have looked very good, starting with a stunning 4-3 come from behind win against Argentina. Their quarter-final game saw them go against an Uruguay team that had only conceded a single goal in 4 games. It wasn’t a vintage France performance, but they were certainly full value for their 2-0 win in that one. This will be the toughest test yet for France, who hold an 8-6-5 record versus Belgium in previous meetings.
Why bet on Belgium
This Belgium side has been dubbed the Golden Generation thanks to the ridiculous amount of talent they have in the squad, yet they have never really come together as a team at major tournaments. Belgium manager Roberto Martinez appears to have changed all that, as this team has looked magnificent in their run to the semi-finals. It has not been all smooth sailing to get here, though, as they needed to dig very deep to come from two goals down to get a 3-2 win over Japan in the Round of 16. Those were the types of games that Belgium would have lost in the past, though, so that comeback may just be a sign that this team is ready for the spotlight. They followed that win up with a 2-1 win over Brazil that was more comfortable than the score suggests.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I think we are in for another fantastic game here, with both teams able to make claims as to how they can win this one. For me, though, it is Belgium who have the slight edge, and since they were my pre-tournament pick to win it, I am sticking with them.
Predicted Score: France 1 Belgium 2
