While the opening game of the tournament can tell you a lot about a team, it is usually the 3 games of the group stage that serve as a much better way of knowing if a team has what it takes to win the FIFA World Cup. After two games in Group B, the jury is still somewhat out on the favorites. We all got a little carried away after Spain and Portugal served up a thriller in a 3-3 tie in the group opener, but neither looked particularly solid in their second games. As it stands, though, both still look good to go through, but there is still some work to be done to secure a spot in the second round. Spain look to have what, on paper at least, appears to be the easier path, as they will close their group stage campaign out with a game against winless Morocco. It may not be as easy as you might think, though, as this Moroccan team has been a whole lot better than their record suggests. Spain are the favorites, but it’s not going to be an easy one here.

2018 FIFA World Cup: Betting Odds to Win Group B

Why bet on Spain

After the first round of games in the group stage, it was Spain who quickly emerged as one of the tournament favorites. They looked like an attacking force against Portugal, with Diego Costa scoring twice in a 3-3 tie. As good as they looked going forward, though, they also looked a little weak at the back, with Ronaldo hurting the defense on 3 different occasions. While they tightened up a little in a 1-0 win over Iran in their second game, there were still signs that the defense was more than a little wobbly. Iran actually had the ball in the net, apparently cancelling out a fortuitous Costa strike that had put Spain in front, but VAR pulled that one back. The defense is going to need to be on its toes again versus a Morocco team that has looked dangerous going forward, despite the fact that they have yet to score.

FIFA World Cup Spain Vs Morocco Betting Analysis & Prediction 1

Why bet on Morocco

You have to feel a certain level of sympathy for Morocco, as they have arguably been the better team in both of the games that they have lost in the group stage. They have lost back to back 1-0 games, with the goals they have conceded being of the horribly unfortunate variety. The first game saw them give up a late own goal versus Iran, while the goal they lost against Portugal came early in the game before they even really had time to settle. The problem for Morocco is that they have been incredibly wasteful in front of goal. They look like a well-organized team, but things have fallen apart for them in the attacking third. You feel that they can continue to keep things tight versus Spain, but given that they have already been eliminated, you wonder if the desire will be there.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Spain may be able to get through with just a draw, but I think they will be going all out to ensure that they move on. Diego Costa will once again be the man to watch as he looks to add to his 3-goal tally.

Predicted Score: Spain 1 Morocco 0
