The weekend is almost upon us, which means it’s time to take a look at the La Liga action on tap for the next few days. The top teams in the league will be back in action quickly after playing in the Champions League and Europa League earlier in the week, which may have an impact on how they perform this weekend. We are going to focus on the top teams in Spain, giving insight and predictions on 4 of the biggest games on the La Liga calendar this weekend.

Celta Vigo Vs Real Valladolid

Celta Vigo continue to hold onto the 3rd place in the league despite losing 3-2 to Girona on the road last weekend. That was their second road game in as many weeks, so they will be looking forward to getting back home to face one of the bottom dwellers in La Liga. Real Valladolid have picked up just 2 points through their opening 4 games of the season, which is quite incredible when you consider that they have yet to score a single goal this season. That said, they have also given up just 2 goals on the season, so we probably should not expect to see a lot of goals here. Let’s go with Celta Vigo to win at home.

Predicted Score: Celta Vigo 2 Real Valladolid 0

La Liga

Getafe Vs Atletico Madrid

Getafe moved up into 5th place last weekend after an impressive 2-0 win over Sevilla on the road. They will return home for this one, which should be a real test against an Atletico Madrid team unbeaten in 3 games after dropping their first game of the season. Getafe are unbeaten in their two home games this season and have yet to concede a goal in their own building. Atletico have yet to pick up a win away from home, but they have picked up a tie, scoring once and giving up 3 goals in their two games away from home. I think we are in for a low-scoring stalemate here.

Predicted Score: Getafe 0 Atletico Madrid 0

La Liga

Real Madrid Vs Espanyol

We are only 4 weeks into the Spanish domestic football season and Barcelona and Real Madrid are already starting to create some separation at the top. Real Madrid were the first to blink in this standoff, though, dropping points in a 1-1 tie with Athletic Bilbao last week. Madrid looked very good in a convincing Champions League win over Roma in midweek, but they face a tricky one here with 4th place Espanyol coming to town. Real Madrid are unbeaten at home, scoring 6 and giving up just 1, while Espanyol are still seeking their first road win of the year. This should be another win for Real Madrid.

Predicted Score: Real Madrid 2 Espanyol 0

La Liga

Barcelona Vs Girona

The defending La Liga champions once again look as though they are going to be tough to displace, winning their opening 4 games of the season and outscoring the opposition 14-3 in the process. 11 of those goals have come in their home games, which gives you an idea of the problems that Girona face heading into the Camp Nou. Girona do have a road win under their belts this season and have picked up 7 points out of a possible 12 to start the year. They look to be in over their heads here, though.

Predicted Score: Barcelona 3 Girona 1
